White Spruce
Picea glauca
White spruce is a hardy long-lived native conifer with many important uses. It grows on a wide range of soil types and can occupy various ecological roles in its range. It is an excellent source of shelter and cover to birds and mammals, and is used in winter months as forage for grouse and various mammals. The new growth or tips of the tree are edible, and it makes for an impressive Christmas tree or windbreak.
