Spicebush is a yellow-flowering shrub which produces clusters of beautiful yellow flowers. Its leaves, twigs, buds, and fruits are edible and can be used as a spice and in tea blends. Many species feed on spicebushes, including 20 species of gamebird and songbird. Additionally, spicebush is an important host for numerous species of butterfly. It grows well in shade or full sun and is often grown for its ornamental and culinary value. It can also be used in wetland plantings, where its habit of spreading via its roots allows it to form dense thickets which hold soil well.
