American Elderberry
Sambucus canadensis
American elderberry is a native shrub with edible flowers and berries, capable of growing on wet or dry sites. American elderberry is useful in riparian (stream-side) plantings as it provides erosion control as well as food and habitat to aquatic and terrestrial life. It grows well and forms dense thickets, making it an important species for stream and wetland restoration.
